Kedar & Gauri

A little truth, a little false,
Let me tell you tale of Love.
In the lands of Utkala
During the kingship of The Lalatendu Kesari,
Lived Kedar & Gauri.

Not far from the famous Temple of Lingaraj,
Lived Kedar, the youngest son of a chieftain.
Jolly was he, who lived in his world of fantasy.
Giggled the girls of his age, when he use to pass by,
“How beautiful is he!"
“Oh! Mahadev! grant me his love
I shall offer Thee sixteen Mondays!"
But none could ever succeed.

Nearby was another clan,
where the beauty of beauties, Gauri lived.
Elder among all her siblings,
She was the daughter of that clan’s Chief.
To her, none dare to stare,
As like hell, the chief was fierce.
Only A braveheart could be her suit.

Once during the Night of Nights
on the pious day of Shivaratri
Kedar met Gauri.
as if, long lost love was discovered!
Eyes and eyes met,
Kedar fell for Gauri.
Her heart throbbed faster,
as an indication,
That it no longer belonged her.
She became Kedar's Gauri !

The love blossomed like a flower.
But flowers bears fragrance,
the secret love was revealed.
 The families were arch enemies.
Enemies not of the common kind,
but of that...
where best Friends had became worst foes.
The couple were out of hope!
They decided to elope.

One dark Night,
they flee into the wild woods.
Soft was she and she felt thirsty.
No more she could run.
Asking her to rest for a while,
Kedar went to fetch water.
It was dawn by then but Kedar didn't returned.
Gauri heard a Tiger's Grunt.
It was dreaded like hell, she worried for him.
Even Kedar heard it,  He ran back to the place,
What?!
He found blood stained apparel of her.
Grief-stricken,
Thinking Gauri been killed,
He stabbed himself to death.

But Gauri was alive!!
She was hiding for her life.
on the way to find a safe place,
she accidentally stepped on a thorn.
and that was all about the blood stain.
When she found, Kedar died for hear sake,
She also killed herself.

Villagers found their bodies.
the news went up to the king.
Moved by the story of love.
In Their memory
At that very place,
He built a Tank
and a Temple of love!
