What
is Bhagvat Gita?
1. An excerpt of 700 verses from
6th Book “Bhisma Parava” of the Epic Mahabharata– Written by Veda
Vyasa.
2. It’s a battle time
dialogue between the archer Warrior, Arjuna and His charioteer and friend, Sri
Krishna.
3. The Dialogue is narrated
to a blind King, Dritharatra by his attendant, Sanjaya who is happen to be
given a “special vision” by the Sage Krihna-dwepa-yana (the one who is Dark-complexioned
island born), who was in fact the writer of the great epic, “Jaya” commonly
called as “Mahabharata”.
4. Sage Krihna-dwepa-yana, is
also the one who took up the mammoth work to compile various school of thought
and Knowledge system, called Vedas. Hene he is called the compiler of the Vedic
Knowledge systems, The Veda Vyasa. Or simply “Vyasa”!
5. Dritarastara, the blind
king’s sons called The Kauravas are fighting the greatest wars of all, with
their cousins The Pandavas.
6. At the beginning of the
war, the blind king was sure that his powerful sons and their allies will overpower
the sons of his late brother Pandu and will have outstanding victory over them.
7. But with time, one by one
all the great warriors of Kauravas got killed in the hands of Pandavas.
8. When the Senapati, the
chief of Army of Kauravas, the great grandfather – Bhisma was defeated with
streams of arrows from the bow of the 3rd Pandaba -Arjuna, he was
awestruck, he could not believe the fact, the Bhisma, the lion warrior, the one
with repute being greatest warriors of all could be defeated. He became sure
the defeat of the Kauravas is must.
9. Grief-stricken and with a
mood to enquire, what so happened that Pandavas, who seemingly were easy to
conquer, got all the supernatural powers to defeat the Kauravas!
10. He enquires Sanjaya, “What
actually happened between his Sons and the sons of his late younger brothers,
Pandu in the battle ground of Justice, Krukeshtara” BG:1.1
11. Sanjay knew where it all
started.
12. He narrates, it was Arjuna
who ordered his Charioteer, Sri Krishna to steer the Chariot, “Nandighosa” to
the middle of the battleground to see in detail who all the people he is going
to fight. So did the Charioteer.
13. Arjuna sees on the other
side his beloved Great Grand Father, Bishma. Of Whom he was greatly found of.
He saw His Great Master, Drona, who was instrumental in making him the Greatest
archer of Arayavarta. He saw also saw many of his relatives and their young
sons. He became overwhelmed with emotions.
14. How can he even aim arrow
at his Master?!
15. The war will create havoc.
It will wipe of great warriors and men. With their death, their wives and
family will lose in wilderness. It will lead to chaos in the disorderliness.
16. The only person who he can
express his emotions, was to his Charioteer, Sri Krishna, who in fact was his
distant cousin also his brother-in-law. He says, “Oh! Hrishikesa, overwhelmed
with my emotions I am confused, I beg of you, guide me what to do, what not to
do. I don’t wish all the joys, fames and riches that I might get after all the
bloodshed. I don’t want to fight this dreaded
war.” BG: 1.7-9
17. Sri Krishna was the most beloved, respected
person of the Arayavarata. He was equally revered by The Kauravas and The
Pandavas.
18. In fact, he was the one
who mediated between both the groups to stop the war. But it was the Kauravas,
who never heeded his proposal of peace.
19. Rather, the sons of the
blind king humiliated Sri Krishan being raised as Cowherd, unfit for uttering
wise words!
20. The war was indeed a righteous
one. Hence called as Dharma Yudha.
21. Pandavas were not given their rightful share, their
self-made Kingdom, Indraprastha were taken away not by war but by deceit. Their Beloved wife – Draupadi was humiliated Infront
of the entire court! of Kauravas. While the good old elder like Bishma and
Drona watched helplessly.
22. For Political reasons, Sri
Krishana’s army allied with the Kauravas and Sri Krishna, vowed not to partake in
the war. But for his love and dearness toward the Pandavas, he agreed to be by
the side of the Pandavas as their advisor and well-wisher.
23. He chose to be the Charioteer
of Arjuna, the 3rd Pandava and be at his side all the time during
the war that was being fought to restore righteousness. “Dharmasansthapana”
24. Sri Krishna sees “Arujuna
in Distress” BG: 1. and he has also has
requested for his advice.
25. He gives a series advices
with utmost clarity and authority that it became the reason of success of
winning the war.
26.
The
advices given in the mid of battle field became the shining star of wisdom for
the entire humanity. “It’s Called – Srimad Bhagvat Gita” The
song of the GOD!
27. The advices were given a sequential
format called “Yogas”. It should not be misunderstood as the Yoga asanas
or the posture exercise.
28. Yoga means – To get added
or to get connected – to get connected with Higer order of thoughts – In fact guide
our minds to the mind of the Devine. This will eliminate all the confusions in
our lives.
29. It worked out wonders to mind of Arjuna when,
his thought got elevated with advices of Sri Krishna – The Devine embodiment.
30. Krishna Says.
31. “it’s the Body that dies,
not the soul. Hence that gets killed is the body not the soul. So logically no
point in grieving.”
32. “Being born as warrior it’s
your duty to fight, don’t ever think about the consequences, as those are not
in your hand.”
33. “Do your duty with mindfulness
with a detached attitude for the consequences – its called Gyana Karama Samnyasa.”
34. “One cannot escape from
being non dutiful, even the Gods do their duties uninterruptedly, to keep the
other inspired to do theirs acts.”
35. “All the action should be
done in mode of sacrifice “Yagna”. Meaning for others, not for self-accumulation.
As the entire nature cycle is based on that. The Rains, the trees, the grains,
the Foods, the Air, the Rivers are busy in their respective acts of “Yagna”. It’s
the humans who has forgotten to live for others and engaged in hankering for
accumulation. Human must live its life for others wellbeing.”
36. “It’s the God that pervades
all, everything is God. One who sees God in everything is a Yogi. He is the one
in real Yoga with Devine. He has control over his senses, Mind, Knowledge and Ego.
He is balanced. Is neither overjoys with thumps nor get distresses in calamity”
37. “For, he meditates. Seated
erect on a place that is not high or low, he concentrates between his eyebrow. With
this act he maintains his connections with Devine in mode Dhyana Yoga”
38. “Dhanya helps a yogi to remain
mindful, being mindful he is dutiful in mode of sacrifices. Hence, he is dearest
to me”
39. Sri Krishna – Reveals his
Divinity.
40. “Whenever there is decline
in righteousness, I take birth to restore it”
41. “Oh! Arjuna it’s me, who
is the enjoyer of everything, find me there where you see greatness”
42. “I am the Greatness of
The Greate – Only a Yogi Knows it”
43. “Become a Yogi Arjuna”
44. Sri Krishana Reveals – “His
Viswa Roopa” The divine grand form, by granting a special vision to Arjuna,
when the later requested him to confirm on his faith.
45. It’s actually the Vision
of a Yogi – To see the entire nature, it’s all creatures, the moving and unmoving
as GOD! One who has the eye of Yogi can instantly see the Vison of GOD.
46. “There are three modes
of natures, that automates the ways of Humanity. It’s the Mode of Goodness, The
Mode of Passion and the Modes of Evil”
47. “Arjuna, one has to transcendent
the three modes, rather verily control of their modes with mindful living”
48. “It only happens when one
who Surrenders to me with Love”
49. “Oh! Arjuna surrenders me exclusively;
I will ensure no sinful reactions befall on you. This is my word” BG: 18.66

Says to the Blind king Dritharatra – Wherever
there is The Great Archer Arjuna and the greatest Yogi of all, Sri Krishna – there
the Victory is must.
